  • Yes
  • Will boys still have a stash with the internet giving such easy access? That said, with whats out there online I MUCH rather my son have a few playboys to tide him over.
So thats really my answer I guess. Playboys, sure, why not let him keep them? Hardcore DVD\'s? Probably would have to step in.
My big concern would be online. Because I\'m certain in 14 or 15 years when this is an issue for me (if I have a boy next) I will in no way be able to out tech my kids to moniter their internet viewing. (Nor am I sure that keeping track of your kids internet usage is ethical, but thats a whole new discussion.)
  • I would have to agree with BmoreDad on this one. If I were to find a few playboys then thats just fine. But the hardcore videos, no way, but not only would I take it away there would be a descussion, no matter how imbarassing, on how the porn videos do not actaully portray real sex in a relationship.

As for internet, I dont beleive that parents have the ability to monitor the stuff kids see online as well as we would like to believe, they are going to see it anyway. but I beleive that the amount of hardcore porn available to kids these days on the internet actually skews the realities of sex for boys and girl alike. But of course that is also another descussion
  • I practically raised my younger brother and have always had lots of guy friends...I even had a friend whose parents would hand him Victoria\'s Secret catalogs (when they were done ordering stuff from it of course). Playboy is a part of life-it\'s a part of a boy\'s upbringing. Sure, I\'d let the kid have a Playboy...but I\'d draw the line at Hustler and Penthouse. I\'d keep him off the internet b/c 1)Hardcore porn and internet predators go kinda hand in hand when speaking of youngsters and 2) doesn\'t internet porn cost money?!? All joking aside, when the kid \"stumbles\" upon Playboy or any other porn I think that would be the perfect time to have \"THE TALK\" about not only where babies come from and sex...but respecting their bodies and the bodies and minds of the opposite (or same if they choose...again, another discussion) sex. I agree with the two above commenters...
  • @ latiamh: I agree that playboy is a bit more subtle, but reagrding THE TALK, you probably need to step up a bit sooner than that, boys tend to pick up this sort of stuff from mates really early

@BmoreDad: well said... the internet may not even be the same place 10 years down the track, look how fast we picked it up :)
  • I have 2 boys and let me tell you...I am not ready for this! Last week I was hanging out in my 7 year old's room. He was cleaning up so I decided to lay on his bed and chat with him. I felt something hard under his pillow and found he'd stashed some things beneath it. He became very nervous and was trying to keep me from picking the pillow up. At first it seemed the usual; pencil, paper, tornado books...you know, kid stuff! Well, as I am asking him to put all of it in his desk I find a bunch of crumpled up magazine pages. By this point he is ready to cry and I was like, what's up, guy? I then notice that he has been taking my Newport-News magazines and carefully tearing out the women. I could see he was extremely embarrassed...as was I. My heart sank as he began to weep into his pillow. All I could do was say that it's OK, you are a boy. I asked him to please throw the magazine pieces into the trash, (which, he was more than willing to do) and that was about the end of it. I slowly walked away as he went back to picking up his room. As I entered the living room I began to cry. "Is he at that age already?? This can't be??!!" My husband looked at me as though I had lost my mind. I proceeded to burst into laughter as I tell my husband the details of what I had just found in our sons bed. He couldn't say a word. After a few minutes of pondering he looks at me and says, "That's how old I was when I had my first crush." I was relieved yet, at the same time I couldn't fathom just when my little guy became, not so little anymore!
So, to answer the question...I don't know yet! I will let you know in a few years...hopefully.
