  If your a hardcore gamer, your points are valid I guess. But for casual gamers or people who see the Wii as a social device (a way to bring people together actually in person vs. wearing a headset to talk to your "friends"), it clearly does not suck. It gives the video game system a role it never had before...a Twister for the digital age.

  First off, I bowled 2 nearly perfect games in bowling because I pwn at bowling :)
  
  But I agree with DonDeen. I've played the XBox 360 and the PS3 and my jaw drops with the level of detail and the graphics and sound. But I have never had more fun with a video game system like I do with my Wii. This is because of one thing: everyone feels like they could do it and it is essentially the gateway drug to video game addicts.

  yeah i think it comes down to casual gamers vs. actual gamers. wii is garbage and for little kids. i have played it casually many times and i never once had any fun, actually got very angry many many times.

  we have an xbox at work and i've seen madden being played and i've played forza on it. the graphics kick ass. the games are awesome. but there's no way i can sit down and play madden against my coworkers (who own the game) for fun.
  one day someone brought in the wii and we were all able to jump in and play games against each other with relatively equal success.
  in the end, it is about what population the systems are marketed for. i've never heard anyone recommend the wii to experienced gamers. it's for kids, casual/social gamers.

  I own a 360, a PS2, and a Wii. And I play the Wii far more (and I never owned a Nintendo console before). I like NCAA Football and Mass Effect on the 360, but I have more bonafide fun with the Wii. And I consider myself something of a gamer.
  
  I've seen some pretty bad lag on the 360, and I find their interface pretty bad. But I enjoy it for different reasons. That doesn't mean it sucks. (The Red Ring of Death, on the other hand . . . .) But I bought the 360 mainly to play online football and a couple of other games with my brother who already has a 360. But I look at the 360 game list, and I see shooter after shooter after shooter. And I've been playing FPS games for so long, they bore me.
  
  Besides the frequently mentioned Zelda, there are some good, tough games for it, like Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem, No More Heroes, Resident Evil, Metroid Prime 3.
  
  Just because you don't care for it doesn't mean it sucks.

  The last game system I owned prior to the Wii was the Atari 2600. Never got into gaming as a "grown up". I guess I'm just an old fart because even watching those shooting games gives me a headache. As one of those non-gaming people, I enjoy the Wii. I could see the sports games that come with it getting old, but it is fun for the kids. I get a big kick of watching my two-year-old pick up the remote and nunchuk and trying to box. Waiting for all the safety warnings is a pain in the ass, though.

  foodad- you do not own a wii. You own what is called a wii360. its the greatest video game system ever. Its just also very expensive.
  I personally think its cool that there are 2 systems worth having for very different reasons. Thats never really happened before. PS3 is the big loser in all this.

  I have a Wii and I love it. At the end of the day when everyone is finally asleep I can access the web through the Wii. I can read Noodad articles on my big tv from the comfort of my recliner. With a big ass tv, once you have some favorites saved, surfing the net with a Wii remote with your feet propped up is self-indugent laziness at its finest.

  I own all the systems and so far none are that amazing ,but the wii in last place beyond all. like that wahoodad person says it is for social means and children ,not for hard core gamers. 1 The graphics aren't great ,at all 2 its boring to play on your own 3 its inner systems are about the same as the gamecube 4 its simple 5 most the games last for about an afternoon or aren't that fun to continue it. It really is a gimick to get in the running of the systems, it is really a gamecube with a differant controller. It's a novilty like what ps2 did with that eye toy thing. The 360 is fun but does'nt show its power and it's cold (if you get me) , the ps3 is great but has almost no games to play on. I can't name one game for note on the wii, 360 has halo3 and ps3 ahs fall of man. This really is'nt based off of Opinion if you know what you are talking about. All have flaws just the wii has a few more.

  foodad, your complaining because you only bought bad games. Try buying First Party Games like Super Mario Galaxy, or Twilight Princess, instead of Bellowing about how Sony and Microsoft are better because they have "Did4.32ddsjjkd Processors". Is it always about graphics?

  I got my hands on a used wii last month for 100$. I have tried the Wii before and didn't enjoy it, but at that price i thought i could rent all the games that i could get into and see. I didn't find anything worth playing that came from 3rd parties, only from Nintendo, with the exception of No more heroes that everyone recommended. Maybe im too hardcore, but that game was boring as hell, the kind of half baked shovelware i would expect to see on X Box live. As for Nintendos holy trinity (AKA cash cows) Mario, Zelda and Metroid, i just didn't find them interesting. Overall the only game i played for over an hour was Galaxie, i think it was a good game in the wrong hands. I sold the system after a week.
  
  I don't know why it sells so well, didn't realise there were so many casual gamers left in the dark before. I wonder what they played for the last 15 years, Jenga?

  Your point is rendered invalid by the fact that he says he enjoys games that present a CHALLENGE and aren't geared towards children. The Mario game and the Zelda game are games that one could pick up and excel at while being half asleep and hungover.
  All third party games are write offs as just cashing in on the controller gimmick, and the system just isn't fun (I owned one, until I sold it for a 360)
  
  Wii: Gimmick, no games, horrible online
  PS3: Amazing technology, blu-ray, limited games, so-so online
  Xbox360: GREAT technology, amazingly deep library of games, unrivaled online
  
  Nuff said, you want to play a real system, grab a 360 or a PS3

  The Dreadnought galaxy in mario galaxy is hard! You have to be very focused to transverse that beast.
  
  All the third party games use the gimmick? Okami and Dragonball Z are great with motion controls.
  
  Online? Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart are incredible on that front! Hardly any lag in smash brothers, NONE in Mario Kart.

  Online sucks in the sense that to add a friend to your Wii, you both have to go through a long and tedious task of entering friend codes for each other. Thats simply annoying, and is a pain in the cock when you have a ton of friends to add.
  
  Most of the time, the online has shoddy connections and bad lag.
  
  Of course when I say all I'm exaggerating, but a hefty majority of the third party games are gimmicks. There are a few gems, but the cash grabs far outweigh them. And I'm not biased, I used to own a Wii, and actually own one again now because my girlfriend enjoys some of the games.

  See, it only sucks in that sense. Why don't you just go and play the game at your friend's house or something? If you play with friends you've never met before, then why don't you just play with random people? By now, you're probably thinking "But I don't want to drag my butt all the way to my friend's house!". Well, doesn't this make you a casual gamer by saying you want gaming to be easier, more accessible, more casual?
  
  As for lag, I don't get how you can have lag with the above games, the only games worth playing online at the moment. Do you have a dial-up connection or what? My friends and I have some of the worst broadband connections around, and the gameplay feels the same as if I would play with them right there.
  
  Yes, the majority of third party game are gimmicks or awful. Guess what? Even if 90% of the 300 some Wii games are not good or better, that still leaves a robust 10%! That's 30 games! Now, I don't know any core gamer that would have nearly that many games (probably don't have a job, friends, etc.), I have 31, and my parents say that's more games bought and enjoyed in any 2 years. And the cash grabs outweighing the gems, that happens with every console. The majority of all games made are crap. It's not even right to use them in being a detriment to a console.

  Wow these days everyone is a gaming expert. Suppose I'm not a "real" gamer or guess I'm a "kid" because I have a wii. Never mind I have a ps3 and 360 also. I buy whats best for each system, I got fallout 3 on 360 because its better on that than it is on the ps3, I got MGS4 on the ps3 obviously because its not on anything else, I got RE4 on the wii because its the best way to play RE4, also just got COD: WaW on wii because I'm sick of playing FPS in a "traditional 2 analog stick manner"
  
  But still, guess I'm a "kid" or only like my wii for parties.

  True... I can't believe Nintendo would put out such a product like the Wii. My friend busted out his window, and I keep reading about people getting hurt from it. I've only played the Wii a few times, but I could totally see how so many people do not like the Wii at all. Thanks for this great post.

  Worst part is that they say that Wii Sports is now the best selling game of all time, but no one chose to buy it on its own. I mean, I m sure 90% of the Wii buyers would buy it for the "Twister" aspect, but tell me where i can buy a stand alone copy of the game? Oh and $5 for a game that was only 25-50kbytes on the NES? Wiidiculous.

  I got a Wii after buying a PS3 first. After nearly a year I own about 12 PS3 games and not a single Wii game (that's excluding Wii Sports, since it came bundled with the console). I've tried some games such as No More Heroes, Call of Duty: World at War, Metroid Prime and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. I find it difficult or even extremely frustrating to play FPS on the Wii as the control seems very unstable. The graphics are another letdown (and YES, graphics ARE important). I just couldn't enjoy the system, my wife and my daughter played few games (Wii Fit, Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Animal Crossing). But even them are getting bored quickly, they've been having more fun with Little Big Planet, SingStar and Buzz. We've had few parties at home, our friends have mostly ignored the Wii and enjoyed a great time playing SingStar and Buzz on our PS3. So my conclusion: Wii sucks, as simple as that. I'm going to sell it and buy an XBox360 instead.

  Retarded absoloutly retarded. I just got back from the sore and guess what my parnets got me a Wii! i was so happy i played wii sports and i got bored of it in 10 minutes. I also got Zelda so i tryed that and i beat it in 2 days and got bored of it. Next one in line is Billy and Mandy well it was crap and i played 1 round and left it. I didnt even bother to play Happyfeet (Happy Feet WTF!?!?) I got a game from my parents called Loony Toons Arce, I DIDNT EVEN PLAY THAT LANDFILL !
  
  This is an outrage Nintendo has gone from some really good old games to absoloute landfll! This is retarded the wii have doubed the PS3 sales and Nintendo are going down. if they were not complete idiots to have some giant overpriced paperweight for as an excuse for a gaming console then guess what they would accually be good.
  
  i recomend the wii to people who have never seen a video game console before (my parents :S)

  Wii has just as many great core games (not casual would be the best definition for it) as PS3 or 360. I'm a core gamer and I spend a lot of time playing my Wii.
  
  Something that is "kiddy" is something like a learning tool, and there isn't much of that on the Wii that no one is proud to have.
  
  Online? Since when is that a requirement? I've played Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and Okami, all of which don't play online, all of which I have completed fully, and they EACH have taken over 40 hours on average to complete fully. I also have Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, both of which have PHENOMENAL online play when it comes to lagging.
  
  Warning screens too long? You big baby, as a TEENAGER I find that immature. By the way, the picture with the TV isn't on any of the games I play (31 games that I've bought from 2006 to 2009).
  
  Graphics are a SIGNIFICANT jump from Gamecube. I also find Super Mario Galaxy and Okami graphics better than both the Resistance games, Halo 3, Fable 2, and a few others. I won't concede that they're better than Gears of War, but hey, it's just a Gamecube 2.0 right?
  
  Overall, the Wii IS a competitive console on all levels. Selling, graphics, gameplay, innovation, etc.

  I must disagree with you, Blegs1992. Online IS a requirement, as Microsoft has proved with Xbox Live service, which is extremely popular. Sony realised that in order to keep the PlayStation in business the online service had to be added, hence the introduction of the PSN service. The poor performance of the Wii (online service) is pathetic, I tried to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl online but got disconnected several times. When I finally got in there was no one to play with. Same happened with Call of Duty: World at War.
  
  Now again with graphics. There isn't any significant jump from Gamecube. Actually, there isn't any jump at all. And how can you compare the graphics from Okami and Super Mario Galaxy with far superior games (graphics wise) such as Resistance and Halo 3? Sorry mate but you got it wrong. I have Okami PS2 version, and I can see the difference when I compare it to games like Oblivion or Little Big Planet on my PS3. Besides, the Wii is not even a GameCube 2.0, is more like version 1.5. So I'll say it again to Nintendo and fanboys: GRAPHICS DO MATTER.
  
  And finally: The Wii is not innovative, in fact it's a gimmick. And as such it attracts children, teenagers and parents with no clue about video games. That's the reason why is selling so well. But the day will come when the so call innovation will wear off, and the Wii will crash and burn.

  If online truly was a requirement, then Wii would be selling awfully. Microsoft does well with Xbox Live, but just because Microsoft is the best at it doesn't make it a requirement. In order for PlayStation to stay in business the online service had to be added... well, where is PS3 right now? It's selling the worst of the three major home consoles and they aren't selling enough software to alleviate the loss Sony sells the PS3 at.
  
  As far as Wii online, I guess I've never encountered problems with Brawl online (except one time my friend disconnected on purpose to be stupid). I don't have Call of Duty: World at War, but I doubt it sold as well as Mario Kart, so I guess you don't have a great enough community backing that up. Maybe you're the only one that plays Call of Duty for Wii online, lol.
  
  Here's a concept of "graphics" that you probably don't realize. The definition of a graphic is a computer-generation image. So, an image is a picture. A picture can be anything, and different people have different opinions on which pictures/images/graphics look the best. It doesn't matter how the picture is created or whether it looks "real" or like a cartoon.
  
  Just to throw an example out there: Personally, I believe The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the Gamecube had the best graphics of the sixth generation and would hold its ground against the majority of seventh generation games. My brother believes that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the PS2 has better graphics than Wind Waker because it looks more real. He's entitled to his opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, graphics are never a definitive factor as far as quality is concerned. Different people have different perceptions of one game's graphics. So really, it doesn't even matter if Wii is a Gamecube 1.5 or Gamecube 2.0, I feel more immersed by Super Mario Galaxy than I do Elder Scrolls IV.
  
  Wii has innovation (something new or different). You call it a gimmick because you think it's the sole reason to buy the thing, and the highest rated games on the console use them barely (Super Smash Brothers) or use them in an ingenious way (Super Mario Galaxy).
  
  I, personally, believe the reason why Wii sells is that it's not that Wii is a so-called "gimmick". If I look at the 360 and PS3, I think they're EIGHTH generation consoles, so they seem so above everyone, that they don't see the big deal in buying it (a "So what?" kind of feeling for consumers, and the price is higher for a PS3). Sure, they have online gameplay, but what's wrong with playing local? We all did it in the fifth generation, and we had fun with it and we had the extra satisfaction of watching the people we play with cry! Sure, the games look real and all, but can't I just go outside and play real, better-looking football than Madden? Besides, we all put up with fifth generation quality graphics when it was fifth generation, and we had fun with it. 360 and PS3 are still in sixth generation by giving the same stuff we got in sixth generation, just a lot prettier in some cases. I'm not saying that Wii is in eighth generation when it comes to core gameplay, but at least they are in the seventh generation. It's also a step-up from the GameCube, so AT LEAST its in the seventh generation for everything else. Wii just feels more accessible, and it goes back to one of the sole reasons we entertain ourselves in general: It allows us to go to a different world. Someone who is suffering from the economic downturn and wants to see something different than the real world looks for something slapstick like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, or Super Paper Mario. In my opinion, that's why it does SO much better, not solely because of the "gimmick".

  I love it when Wii fans fight with the sales figures. Id rather be the only man on earth with a 360 or Ps3 and an HDTV than following the WII-TARD in front of me who just bought a Ps2 with motion controls...oh I mean a Wii.
