If your job is unpredictable, or you have a boss that likes to spring ASAP projects on you at 4:59; don\'t make any promises to your kids that you\'ll be home at a specific time or a specific place. Your kid needs to trust you, and empty, unfulfilled promises will chip away at that trust--and kids don\'t forget. Think how thrilled they\'ll be when you pull up to the tee-ball game unexpectedly versus how disappointed they\'ll be if they\'re watching the parking lot the whole game, waiting for you to pull in, because you promised you\'d be there. Only promise what yu can deliver--also known as \"don\'t write a check that your ass can\'t cash\".
