We had actually shot a mother skunk once on our farm (was getting into the chicken coops and spraying - really big mess cleaning chickens) and she had a baby behind her.

I think they hang around and night & if you come down the stairs and in any way startle them, they spray. Our front door has a mail slot...which the smell seeps through and permeates most of our downstairs. It's a treat. Our new front door will be without that mail slot, that's a fact.

We had actually shot a mother skunk once on our farm (was getting into the chicken coops and spraying - really big mess cleaning chickens) and she had a baby behind her. To this day the "baby" skunk lives in our farmhouse like a cat. Best animal ever. They really are great.

I suppose the next time I move I should pay attention to the fauna in the area, I wouldn't enjoy having skunks as my neighbors. I loved the little "kittens" tell, it's the funniest thing I've read lately.

As kids in Maine, we had to take turns catching the baby skunks so that we could "relocate" them. My favorite method was a cardboard box with a stick and a string. =)
