    Interesting article, but I'm confused by the end.

    Hi Susan,

    I hesitate to disagree with a woman who may have experience childbirth firsthand but I am pretty sure it isnt the dilation that hurts, its the contractions that do.

    Actually it is the contractions that pull the cervix open. So it is kind of a chicken or egg thing as to if the dilation itself hurts.

    dilation is a painful process. why was it mentioned to be not painful is beyond me... :D
