So instead of harvesting mildew spores in your laundry basket or hanging on the sink faucet, tear off a sheet, wipe up, throw in your trash and be done with it.

Or smell mildew in your kitchen.

Don\'t you want to have oxygen for your kids\', kids\' kids?

when some friends of ours had their first kid I was amazed at the number of rolls of paper towels in their kitchen and yet more in the pantry. Now that we have our own kid I understand why....
As far as using cloths vs paper towels - keep in mind that the trees used for paper towels are crops - just like wheat and corn. No rainforests are being touched to make a sheet of a quicker-picker-upper. Statistically speaking the US has been increasing the number of acres of forested land and so on and paper towels readily break-down in the landfill.
I\'m betting that if you think it through you\'ll find that environmentally and financially speaking washcloths versus paper towels is a wash(yeah I said that on purpose). :)
    Love the site.

The paper towels we use in our kitchen contain a high percentage (if not 100%) recycled materials. Sure, the absorption is not as fantastic as the paper from \"crop grown\" tree sources, but I still feel more environmentally mindful using recycled materials for my toddler\'s messes. Plus, the mildew argument can be valid if you don\'t do laundry often (but really, don\'t we all do laundry at LEAST once every other day?). 8)

Paper towels are the way to go. Most of the time you\'re not just cleaning up grape juice (which, if thrown in the laundry wet, will stain anything it touches), but also clumps of cottage cheese, yogurt, chewed but not swallowed food bits, etc etc. I don\'t know about you, but I don\'t want that clogging up my washing machine. Or ruining my work clothes.
Buy paper towels en masse at Costco - all recycled products (Kirkland products). Keep it simple.

Smithy, If you\'re throwing your washcloths in the hamper with a whole cheeseburger inside, yes, you should stick to paper towels.

    LOL ...cheeseburger!
    classic!

I split the difference and use both washcloths and napkins. A napkin for heavy duty food clean up and a wet down mini towel for a final sweep (usually my kids face and hands)

The napkins are only deployed when burger and other food shrapnel spray the immediate dining area...at that point the hell with the trees I\'ve got food to peel off the ceiling!
