Thanks for this info. My nephew was born on friday and today tuesday he went for his check up and a few hours later dr. called to have my brother take him back in. Now he's in the hospital and might need to stay there 2-3 days. We're all praying that he'll get better soon! Your article made me feel a little better, thanks again!

In newborns, physiological jaundice can occur within a week of their birth. It occurs due to break up of RBCs which are at a higher number in newborns.

Jaundice is caused due to unhygienic food. It leads to yellow discolouration of skin. One should take enough bed rest & drink glucose water.

Last year, I got jaundice which remained for 1month & got complicated. I had to take lot of medicines.

Jaundice is yellowish discoloration of skin and sclera.In newborn,physiological jaundice is self-limiting but pathological jaundice needs to be treated properly.The most important treatment in jaundice is Phototherapy .

my baby was born on the 16 th of december,18 th morning we felt that he was getting a bit yellow and the bilirubin count was 11,on the 20 th we did one more test and the count was 13.5,on the 8 th day we tested and the count has gone upto 16.9,baby is been breast fed and he passes urine 16 times for a day poo is also normal i was adviced to watch for about 14 days is it alright please let me know,what i should do thks

Yeah, pretty high, we have been in the hospital for a few days now. Like I sad I appreciate the article and wish you and your family the best.

Crap, we're back at the hospital.

The hospital has a Billy Count number where they usually let you go home. I think anything under 13 is the magic number (although even at 13 they're cautious) where they let you go home. We were at 12 when we left and then when we brought Gavin back in he was at 17.

They gave us a home "Billy blanket" kit to try before we came back in, although that thing seemed pretty weak and didn't do too much (except leave me short $80). After one night in the "baby tanning bed" his Billy count was 6 and kept going down from there.

So I echo the "although it is common, you should be prepared for how scary it could be.." sentiment. With your life completely changing so fast (but for the better), having something like that happen can be a little freaky. But at least the remedy is known and pretty darn effective.
