Amen brother, I hear ya. Good post.

Obviously! Didn\'t we all laugh at the kids with Gobots? Nicely done with the rationale though.

hell, there are Transformer Star Wars crossover toys. WTF?! Chewy and Han transform INTO the millenium falcon?!?!?

Another awesome thing: The Transformers theme song is sung by guys and girls.

The GoBots theme song is not.

I was trying to think if I had anything to add because the transformers were really after my time by a little. I mean I do like transformers but didn\'t really have any exposure to them except through younger cousins. Then it struck me, what the hell is a GoBot? I don\'t even remember them at all.

A very nice analysis, though it takes more of a global view of the toy concepts rather than focusing on the toys themselves. Obviously when you take into account the movies, TV shows, and comic books the Transformers come out ahead (although you have to subtract a couple points from the Transformers movie due to its use of \"Dare to be Stupid\" in a totally out-of-context fashion).

I guess I like metal better than plastic.

Regardless, thank you for addressing another item on my noodad wish list. Now if we can just get some more pictures of foodad the site will become a true online utopia.

Boy bands suck. But if not for boy bands, would I know that Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene were awesome? If everything was awesome, would anything be awesome? No. Everything would be average. Thanks for being the suck Gobots!

I honestly think the Gobot show intro is much better - more dynamic, interesting, and most of all fun looking, plus the theme music is faster and catchier. The transformers intro takes itself too seriously and is flat out boring. Plus, why do the autobots fly into the mountain at the end when none of them are supposed to be able to fly? Seems like a Gobots rip-off to me.

    WHY!?
No matter which camp you fall into, the point is moot. No one, that I have heard, is planning on making a gobots movie.....

Just post a review of how awesome the movie was, and oh yes, it was. Be done with it.
Then let all the weird little fanbois pathetically cry about The GM sell out, Primes flames and my personal favorite... waaaaaa Bumble is suppose to be a VW instead they made him a sweet looking camero waaaaaa

Damn skippy the Transformers are way better than the Go-Bots. The Go-bots were dorks. They looked like children\'s toys: all blocky and their heads merged into their bodies, very little actual transformation. The Transformers looked like weapons, ministers of death praying for war. If sitting in a parking lot, it would be easy to identify the Go-Bot from 100 yards out, but you could strap yourself into a Transformer and never know it the difference unless you happened to notice the cool insignia on the steering wheel.
Now, who is better, Voltron, or that other crazy robot of the 80s that was made up of cars?

    Hero,

    Do you mean Voltron

I\'ll have to look into - the first one was the Voltron I watched - which I hear is also coming to the big screen and being produced by Mark Gordon of Saving Private Ryan fame (but that was from a clip in 2005, did a movie come out and flop already?). I thought there was another giant robot, who hands shot out of his arms to take out opponents? I think his head was a helicopter, or at least it shot out as well. We need a real fanboy for this one.

By the way, great vote on USAToday.com on who should be the next villian in the inevitable Transformers sequel, and Soundwave (the decepticon picture above) won out over Shockwave and Starscream.

1/ Transformers DID have die-cast metal in ALL of their first wave releases. Most G1 toys also had some metal parts.

    2/ It\'s \"STARSCEAM\", not \"Skyscream\".

3/ Gobots outsold TFs when they first came out as the TV show and the toys came out BEFORE the TFs. I think TFs won due to the old \"Betamax\" problem of supply and demand.

4/ The Gobots liscence, but not the toy designs are now owned by Hasbro.Takara-Tomy. In fact, Hasbro has started to USE Gobot names, such \"gobot\", \"Leader-1\" etc as names for TRANSFORMERS.

Takara also released a collection of repainted minibots, such as Bumblebee (not a great TF name when you think about it) as gobots, complete with similar colours to their gobot inspiration. The renegades became decepticreeps and the goodguys became autobots. The idea was that in the TF universe, the gobots are distant \"cousins\" to the tfs.
